For All The Bachelorette Fans Out There #Bachelorette

My blog has been pretty serious lately so I thought it was time to lighten things up a bit. I haven't done a "Can You See the Resemblance?" in such a long time, so why not now.  This one however is kind of like Conan O'Brien's "If They Mated", a segment he did when hosting the Late Night Show.

I have to admit I do watch the Bachelorette even though it has a tendency to be a little cheesy, sometime fake and over dramatic. Sometimes I revel in mindless TV, and with a glass of wine it proves to be a good stress reliever. So my favorite bachelor is Ed. I know many of you on Twitter chat call him Big Head Ed, but I still like him.  All these weeks he has looked so familiar to me and after Monday night it finally dawned on me.

A little Jeffrey Dean Morgon from Grey's Anatomy and a little Barry Williams, aka Greg Brady from The Brady Bunch.

Right? Can you see it too or was it the glass of red wine that clouded my judgment?

Harrisons on Third or Hamptons on King?

Branding alert!  Beep boop bop bop.  That is the siren for unclear, easily confused brands.  It's similar to my nerd impression, but this is specifically for marketing nerds.  We have posted about these two new(ish) restaurants in town, Hamptons on King and Harrison's on Third, but never really discussed the problem here.  Obviously the names are similar, but they also happen to be within a few blocks of each other, and appeal to the same market.  But here's the kicker:  Hamptons on King used to be located where Harrison's on Third now is (previously called B. Hamptons).  AND Hamptons on King is now located where Estrada's was.   So, there are name changes, closings and openings all in one!  That will give you a hangover just reading about it!

Anyway, it doesn't really take a marketing nerd to figure out that it's no good for business when the two names are indistinguishable.  Especially when there could be slurred speech involved.

SNL's Influence

Speaking of Mavericks . . .
Everyone knows that Tina Fey and Sarah Palin are twins separated at birth.  We love Tina Fey and think she is brilliant.

But is the funny twin on Saturday Night Live hurting the brand image of the Vice President contender?

For the last few weeks SNL has done a pretty good job imitating the Vice Presidential candidate. The outfits, hairdos, accent and mannerisms are pretty right on the money.  So, is the tongue and cheek humor making the public think Palin is not quite ready for the job hurting her image?

We're not sure if SNL has that much influence.  The skits are, however, getting quite a bit of attention.  In fact, yesterday while we were meeting at Panera and talking about the funny SNL skit last weekend (love the beer drinking Maverick reference - hilarious) a woman (typically not fitting the SNL demographic) overhead us and joined in the conversation adding she thought the skit was very funny.

Maybe SNL won't sway voters, but they sure are creating a buzz and creating some sort of influence.

Can you see the resemblance

In the spirit of St. Patty's Day. We thought it appropriate to highlight one of the world's most famous Irish Rocker's - Bono of U2.

Bono and Robin Williams? Not sure about this one other than the tinted shades. I would bet that after a few pints of Guinness or Harp they begin looking like identical twins.
Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Can you see the resemblance?

Time to lighten things up a bit. Since we've been on the topic of nonprofits and charitable giving we thought it appropriate to highlight a celeb that gives of her time to many charitable causes.

Angelina Jolie and "Transformers" star Megan Fox
WOW - even similar tattoos

Since they are both showing off their backs . . . did you know there is a The Clothes Off Our Back Foundation - http://www.clothesoffourback.org/? This 501c3 organization hosts charity auctions showcasing today's hottest celebrity attire. Items are put up for bid to the public with proceeds going to benefit children's charities. Clothes Off Our Back was founded by actors Jane Kaczmarek ("Malcolm In The Middle") and Bradley Whitford (“The West Wing,” “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip”) whose efforts, along with their celebrity and designer friends have helped improve the lives of children across the globe. Over 500 celebrities have participated in Clothes Off Our Back auctions since its inception in 2002, helping raise over $2 million for various children's charities.

Right now there are six auctions going on during the month of March. Check it out at http://www.clothesoffourback.org/categories.php?cPath=1

Can You See The Resemblance?

Since we're talking cosmetic industry, I think it's time for another edition of . . . "Can you See The Resemblance?"

Both these ladies are fashion icons and have used their flawless faces to promote the make-up industry.

What do you think? Separated at birth? Wait, have you ever seen them together - could they be the same person? Yes, no, maybe?

Shakira and Beyonce. You be the judge.

Can You See the Resemblance?

With Amy Winehouse still receiving quite a bit of buzz we thought she might make the perfect subject for our new segment - Can you see the resemblance?

Amy and Janice from "Friends"
